In the technical field Warranty Management comprises the collection, processing and analysis of warranty and goodwill data in order to deal with technical, logistical or legal questions. This encompasses the design and development as well as the production of a product. By defining the technical aims a technical strategy will be developed, which in combination with economic strategies lead to the business strategy.

Hereby it is of particular importance to gather the warranty and replacement data holistically, to further analyze them statistically and eventually interpret them accordingly. Based on that, the following fields can be supported:
– Recall management (e.g. for systems critical to safety)

– Calculation of serial spare parts or End-of-Life-Inventory
– Calculation of warranty provisions
– Risk assessment for the extension of warranty periods
– Detection of warranty fraud
Emphasis should be placed on the holistic reflection of all life cycles during the production process. Thus, Warranty Management already begins in the design phase and remains evident until the follow-up phase of the end-of-series of the product. Hereby, in each step of the production process several analysis techniques and methods can be applied to achieve the technical aims of the Warranty Management.
